User's Manual: Jillian Collins
My Style:
My hope is that I am viewed as both a professional educator as well as a friend to students and parents alike. I am a mother and can relate feelings and concerns you have as parents. Please consider me your partner this year.
What I Love:
I love my family: My parents (who live in my hometown of Laramie, Wyoming), Ava (my 12-year-old daughter at Walsh Middle School), Tristan (my 9-year-old son at CRE), and Kohl, my black cat (who acts more like a dog!)
What I Do for Fun:
I love traveling with friends and family and experiencing new things. In the past two years I’ve visited 8 states and done things I never thought I would do! I may be afraid to try something new, but I almost never regret anything once I do it. I love outdoor fitness: hiking, running, walking, biking. I love mowing the lawn and doing yard work. I also love movies and book club.
Communicating with Me:
Email me anytime: [email protected]. It is the quickest way to get a response. I usually go to bed around 9:30 or 10:00, so don’t hesitate to email late. I check email before going to bed most evenings. I want to serve you--and that carries over past 3:00 pm.
How I Teach:
I love to make school fun for children. I understand that different types of children enjoy different activities and learn in different ways. I differentiate many lessons but I also keep a structured routine so the class knows what to expect from day to day.
I how feel valued:
Respect and appreciation (however you choose to show it) :)
What I Will Not Tolerate:
I will not tolerate students treating other students poorly. Choose kind.ness. Include everyone. Those are things I say daily to my class.
Morning time:
I am a morning person, but my mornings are often stressful as a mom of two kids. If I look stressed in the morning, it most likely has nothing to do with anything we are discussing.
You might need to know:
I need coffee and chocolate everyday.
Be Proactive:
Please communicate any important information to me. It is easier for me to help your child be successful when I know what your concerns and their needs are.
Student expectations:
I choose to teach this grade for a reason. I think second grade is the sweetest age. They still love school, are respectful but can tie their own shoes and take care of their own bathroom needs. I expect my students to take responsibility for bringing their materials to class and organizing their belongings. I expect them to give me things that you ask them to, unpack their own backpacks, clean up after themselves and keep track of their homework. This includes asking for a new copy if needed. (I always give an extra copy)
What I love about this School:
I love everything about this school---but I truly love my co workers. I will never say a bad word about any of them. I think all the staff at CRE work hard to educate, love, and care for the students.
My faults:
I am not strong at proofreading, but I’m trying to do better. I make many typos in emails and letters. I apologize in advance!
My Professional Goal for 2018-2019
Mindset has a powerful impact on how children experience learning and whether or not they continue to grow and thrive. I want to lead my class (and myself) toward developing a healthier mindset.
